About DJ PHANTASY

hp_1_author.jpg
Like me, like Fabio and all them early guys that are often called ‘pioneers’ or whatever you want to call it, I consider Phantasy as one of them too. He was one of the first generation DJs, he was there from the start and I don’t think people realise just how much he’s contributed to the scene.
— Grooverider

For a man who often says he's never worked a day in his life, Stephen Hannon has had many roles over the last 30 years .... Flyer-guy, ticket seller, DJ, producer, label owner, promoter, agent, manager. He once even tried MCing (but he'd rather not mention that)

This man has done everything he possibly can to live the dream he first had in 1988 at his first acid house rave and went from terrace culture to dedicated raver overnight: to be part of, and contribute to, the biggest youth culture and musical movement the UK has experienced since the 60s.

Three generations deep and he's still in it up to his neck. He's been at the very top, he's been at the bottom, he's spent years fighting his way back to where he wanted to be. He's now behind one of the most influential DJ/MC groups Drum & Bass has ever seen.

It's not been easy - in fact for years it was pretty painful - but never once did he hang up his headphones. He just persistently hustled and found new ways to win. And repeat. DJ Hype once described him as 'the Del Boy of drum & bass'. Nicky Blackmarket calls him Mr Logistics. Grooverider simply states he is a pioneer. You know him as DJ Phantasy.

He's been a massive part of this movement since its earliest chapters and he still buzzes off it like he did over 30 years ago. He's never worked a day in his life, but he's also never taken a day off from his dedication for this music, this culture and what it stands for. Three Generations Deep is his story so far ...

Right from day one, he’s been an integral part of the whole thing. I always call him Mr Logistics. He sorts things out and helped a lot of people along the way, pushing the scene forward much more than a lot of people give him credit for.
